Black, Plaid and Floral...Oh My!

I worked in Nashville today and it was FREEZING (by a southerners standards). But that didn't stop me from rocking my new pattern mixed outfit. Well that and the fact that I only had this one outfit in my bag. I think was OK, nothing special. What do you think?

K-Mart Rocks

So The Budget Babe responded to a post with suggestions on what to wear to a baby shower this spring. I'm a sucker for bold colors and patterns (although you probably can't tell looking at what I wear daily), but I fell in love this dress from K-Mart. Yes, K-mart. I can just my ex rolling his eyes and turning his nose up at this frock, but that's exactly why he's an ex!

I had the package waiting on my doorstep when I returned tonight from a trip to Nashville and couldn't wait to try it on. Check it out..

I'm excited to wear it out one day soon. Still need some freaking accessories and figure out which shoes to wear with it. I'll get there eventually....

Apartment Hunting

I am officially blogging!!! My first blog posting ever =) I am super excited to be doing this. If anyone is familiar with the DC housing/rental market, they can understand my pain in trying to find temporary housing in this economy that doesn't cost greater than $1500/month in rent. I digress, this is a fashion blog after all. I decided to check out this Embassy Row House apartment wearing this outfit. Thoughts on the outfit?

It's Coming.....

So after weeks of throwing subtle hints, I have FINALLY coerced my homie to add her contributions to StyleSearch. YAAYY!!! Since my undergrad days she has tried to get me out of my jeans and tees and find my inner girlie diva. LOL Believe it or not, she now CLAIMS that she can't dress herself of find anything to wear, but I'm not buying it!

Keep an eye out for her contributions....

Spring Has Sprung

The weather here is in ATL is gorgeous. I'm loving the warm temperatures, light breeze and all of the sunshine! I was in a springy mood and decided to dress accordingly. I had on a purple cardigan in the office as it was a little chilly and my coworker called me to the effect of "easter bunny surprise". We all got a good laugh at my expense but nothing was shaking my mood today.

BCBG to the Rescue

After my extended delay at the airport last night, I was in no mood to do anything other eat and go to sleep. It was no surprise that I totally overslept and late for a marketing event at work. Thankfully I just picked this dress up from the the tailor and it was still draped across the foot of my bed.

I didn't really give it much thought, just threw on some shoes and a jacket. I swear I showered, got dressed, did hair and makeup in 20 minutes this morning and you can't really tell, right? LOL! Maybe I'll try it with some different shoes and my boyfriend jacket next time and see how it looks.

Puerto Rico!!!

Well I'm back in San Juan again. Not sure how I actually made it. I got in from a get together around 2:30am and crashed til 5am and some how managed to throw some things in a bag and drive in the pouring rain in just enough time to make my flight. Next thing I know, I'm sitting in the lobby of the Caribe Hilton, drink in hand waiting on my room to be finished.

After a power nap, lunch and another nap, I headed out to show San Juan my dance skills. In my sleep packing this morning, I somehow forgot to pack my giraffe print shoes and instead packed the ones from last night. Eh, it's OK. I think it still worked out. I had a good time at the Courtyard Marriott salsa party although I only danced once. Puerto Ricans are such awesome and passionate dancers! :-)

Black skinny jeans - Wet Seal; Black tank - Express; Green Top - ??; Black Patent Peep Toe Pumps - Guess

I actually recylced my black and green outfit from last week so I won't bother posting it, but here is what I wore to teach my class on Tuesday. Basic black and white with a little purple for a drop of excitement.

Black trousers - Club Monaco; Purple Top - Express; Black and White Jacket - ??; Black Patent Mary Janes - Kate Spade

Today I threw on jeans instead of work attire. I was only at the office for 10 minutes and headed over to the airport to find out no earlier flights were available and my flight is delayed over an hour. Oh JOY!! I honestly don't mind being in PR longer, but I'm gonna miss Top Model :-( Oh well, looks like I'll be watching it on Youtube tomorrow night!

It's the WEEKEND Babay!!!

And I'm the lame-o posting pictures on my blog. LOL It's actually kinda chilly and rainy here in ATL, so I ran a few errands and have been hiding in the warmth of my condo -- fuzzy socks and all. :-)

I'm so proud that I created my outfit for tonight from what I wore earlier to run errands. Let me know what you think.

Day....

Grey skinny Jeans - Wet Seal; Grey T-shirt - Wet Seal; Purple Cardigan - Forever 21; Black Patent Peep Toe Pumps - Guess

Evening...

Enjoy the weekend!!

Dress Week, Day #5: Coming to a Close

Well I didn't quite make it out of the home office today which means I certainly didn't make it into a dress or skirt. But hey 3 out of 5 ain't half bad! That's the best I've done in probably years.

I'm super excited about some great news over the past 2 weeks and will be celebrating this weekend. It's been a while since I've gone out, so I'm excited to get dressed up for a night on the town especially since the weather is warm here in ATL. I've already started thinking about what I can wear Saturday for dinner and dancing (maybe a dress/skirt creation)!! Sunday I'm heading back to Puerto Rico for a few days of work (and a little fun in the sun!!). My friend is taking me out for a salsa celebration Sunday so I'll definitely have to find something caliente. LOL that was so corny.

I almost forgot I ordered some things from Forever 21 with my store credit and they arrived today! I would post pics but seems like the items aren't online any more (Yellow linen skirt, grey cardigan, purple cardigan). My mom is also mailing me her Member's Only jacket from back in the day!! YAY!! Free and vintage!

Well enjoy the weekend folks!!

Dress Week, Day #4: On Hiatus

I decided to work from home, so no dress/skirt for me today. I'll be back at it tomorrow. I'm so proud of myself for going three days strong this week. I do need to step the posing and picture game up. If people actually read my blog, I'd do more pics of accessories and shoes and stuff.

And just a disclaimer in case you were wondering...

I don't wear the same black Express tank everyday. LOL I bought a grip of em on sale during the After Thanksgiving sales. Man they come in handy. Same goes for the Express Cropped Sweaters and Banana Republic pieces. It's just so easy to throw on with anything when I'm at a loss on what to wear. :-)

Almost forgot to mention that I can cross one item off my wish list. I bought a denim jacket from Nordstrom and it arrived yesterday. It was 50% off so I had to snag it. It's my first purchase from the junior department in ages, but it works. I think I may wear it tomorrow with my last dress for the week.

I also copped this trench from Old Navy a few weeks ago. I love it. I can wear it with whatever, whenever. It really does brighten up my day and make me feel oh so bright, warm and sunshiny inside even on the the gloomiest of days.

Well, until next time....

Dress Week, Day #3: Boring Brown

Plaid skirt (brown, green, cream) - United Colors of Benneton; Orange sleeveless shirt - Banana Republic; Cream sweater - Club Monaco; Dark brown pumps - Nine West

I don't really like this outfit, but I was only at work for half a day and nothing special was going on, so it worked. I think I need a slimmer belt. My mommy made the necklace for me. I know you can't see it, but it's a brown tiger striped stone as the center piece surrounded by smaller earth tone pieces.

Dress Week, Day #2: Going Green

Black skirt - Sisley; Black tank - Express; Green cropped sweater - Express; Black peep toe pump - Tribeca by Kenneth Cole

I woke up EARLY this morning to get my hair done and just threw on a black tank, black skinny jeans and flip flops. It was a tad breezy so I just grabbed the sweater and ran out the door. Well my hair dresser was behind schedule, so when I got home, I made a quick wardrobe change into the skirt and pumps, added the belt and faux pearls and I was off to work.

I got these little peep toes from Nordstrom last year. They are black with a little bow on top and have multi colored embroidery of butterflies, flowers etc. Needless to say all my friends call granny shoes and the only people to complement me on them have been in the 50+ crowd. LOL But I don't care. I think they are cute and they were hella cheap! They will look cute with the lemon yellow skirt I ordered last week too!

Dress Week, Day #1: G.I. Jane

So I decided to make this a week of dresses and skirts. Trying to stay away from the ease and comfort of my pants. I;m shopping my closet and trying to pull out some things that haven't seen the light of day in a while. Surprisingly it's a lot of fun!

So for today, I pulled out my DVF wrap dress. My ex HATED this dress. He thought it was too busy. Lol. Maybe it is, but I love it. What do you think? It fit without alterations (size 2), feels great on my skin (100% silk) AND has hip pockets!!! Loves it! I thought about wearing my black patent mary janes, but found my green patent pumps hiding in the back of my closet begging to be set free. Lol

I'm not sure why it's so blurry, but I guess it's a good thing, b/c this was a horrible hair day. It was a big fuzzy mess!

What I Wore: Puerto Rico, Work Day #2

My second day at work was just as gloomy as the ones before, but I was all bright and sun shiny inside! My Puerto Rican friends urged me to not straighten my hair and just wear it natural. Since it was raining on and off and the humidity there ruins my handiwork with the flat iron I agreed and here are the results. Don't think I'll be trying that again without my styling products.

Not really loving this outfit, but it will work I guess. I didn't overpack with a lot of options so I had to wear it. Wish I would have work stockings even though it was hot as all get out.

What I Wore: Puerto Rico, Work Day #1

So this is what I wore the first work day in San Juan. And this was AFTER I flat ironed my hair. :-( Horrible I know, but the best I could do given the humidity and rain. I liked this outfit except the shoes. I was packing light so I had no choice but to make it work. Next time I will go for something a little darker.

Terrific Tuesday

So it looks like I'll be working with clients for the rest of the week, so I will have a little activity on the blog. I know you blog trolls have missed me. (Man I'm so lame, I know! LOL) Here's today's fit. I have had this dress for a while, but finally got it shortened so I don't look like grandma!! Got the belt shortened too! Man it sucks being little (sometimes)!

It was FREEZING this morning, but by lunch time, almost 30 degrees warmer. I tell you this Atlanta weather is driving me crazy!! Well I hope you enjoy. Not sure why the pics are so blurry.

These shoes have been in my closet since I started my job almost three years ago. I think they are the cutest, but man do they hurt. Might have to sell these to the highest bidder with a smaller foot. Anyone wear a size 7?

Oh Marvelous Monday

I'm working from home today so I am in my home office ensemble, sweats and a tank. Doubt you guys want to see that, so I'm posting my salsa outfit instead. One of the instructors really liked me in green and said I should wear it more often. It's missing something though -- maybe a necklace, or scarf...have to work on that.

Weekend Finds

I bought this bag online a few weeks ago (it's still on back order) and finally went to check it out in the store (now that it's in stock) and I don't really like it. It's OK, just too big and the material in that color didn't look so hot in person.

Marc By Marc Jacobs Women's Croc of Q Groovee Satchel, Pebble

But it's OK because I bought a different one that happens to be cuter and a lot cheaper -- YAY!!
Marc by Marc Jacobs Hillier Hobo, Dark Blue

I did find a cute pink and purple Banana Republic wrap shirt at the consignment shop that I'll probably wear when I'm working in Puerto Rico at the end of the week.

My last purchase was a pair of patent leather pumps. Man they feel so good on, like heaven!!
Black Patent Mary Jane, Kate Spade, Katie
So I forgot I took a picture of myself while I was in Dallas this past week. As you can see I have an unhealthy addiction to grey, black and white, but hey I'm working on it.

A Little More Shopping

I ordered these online last night and and got a good deal. I just hope they fit. I hate having to return stuff that I order on-line especially when I have to mail it in. We shall see shortly.

I have decided to limit my shopping to accessories only --bags, shoes, belts and jewelry are what I'm seriously lacking and I think can really help me create more looks with what I already have in the closet. I also have a stack of new-with-tags items that were hidden in my closet that I'm dropping off to get altered. Also going to clean up and head over to some consignment stores and see if I find anything interesting. Later!

What I Wore Today

Thank you to all of you fashionistas out there keeping us up to date on what you're rocking. I've gained enough courage to start posting a few of my own creations when I actually get dressed and go to the office or client site and surprisingly I did today...and on a Friday of all days. Anywho it's mid day and I'm already at home and back in sweats...la dolce vita! Enjoy!

Recent Buys

So I'm in Dallas for work for the week for training. BLEH. In order to stay sane, I've been reading blogs and shopping online. Check out my purchases...

Thanks to BudgetChic for the pink pencil skirt find. Mine is one the way and my friend bought one in red as well.

I know I said I'd stay away from black, but I think this will be a good piece, plus DVF wrap dresses don't need altering and I think I can do so much with this dress even with what is already in my closet.

My co-work/bestie and I left class a little early and drove up to Allen,Texas to the Premium Outlets last night and I bought this MK tote. I don't typically get into bags like that. I don't even own a wallet (adding to shopping list). I just use my laptop bag to hold all my stuff. Sad I know. :-(

I passed on a pair of Cole Haan pumps that were 50% off the already considerable discount and I'm still kicking myself on that one. Oh well..I'm going to check out some consignment shops in Atlanta when I return. Alexis' Suitcase looks promising. Any other suggestions for the ATL?

The Journey Begins

So it's been nearly three years since I left the comforts of the college lifestyle behind and traded in my school hoodies for suits and blazers.  I looked at this transition as a very positive one, excited to bring a little spice in my life and let my professional sytle reflect the true person that I am inside.

Well things didn't quite work out that way.  For starters, I work from home about 50% of the time.  Those days, my outfit for the day is yoga pants and a tank top.  Comfy, but not helping me grow my personal style.  I also work in IT and am surrounded by men in jeans or khaki pants and polos on a daily basis.  BORING!!! The times I have attempted to dress it up a little bit and try something a little funky and creative, I was met with a lot of stares and inquiries of where the hell I was going!! LOL  The last and probably the biggest challenge is dressing my frame.  I'm 5'3 and about 105 lbs soaking wet.  I live at the tailor and they are not so friendly on the budget. Le sigh.

So I'm done with my pity party and on a  quest to revamp my style one purchase at a time.  I'm not exactly sure what I'm going for, but I have a few rules I'm trying to loosly follow:
  1. Limit the black and grey purchases
  2. Introduce brown into my life
  3. Buy multi purpose pieces that can work for day and night
  4. Color, color color
  5. Accessorize
I've already gotten started with a items and will post and see what you guys think on my finds and what I put together with what I have.
